The 3rd Summer School on Biological Treatment of Solid Waste is organized in the framework of the two International Doctorates ABWET (Advanced Biological Waste-To-Energy Technologies www.internationaldoctorate.unicas.it/abwet/) and ETeCoS3 (Environmental Technologies for Contaminated Solids, Soils and Sediments- www.internationaldoctorate.unicas.it) .
The ABWET Marie Skłodowska-Curie European Joint Doctorate (EJD) provides education and research at PhD level on environmental technologies that convert waste materials into bioenergy, training doctoral candidates to think globally and work in multidisciplinary research teams. ABWET is centered on environmental technologies for the treatment of waste, with a focus on anaerobic treatment processes, valorization of the digestate and biofuel clean-up. ABWET focuses on fundamental and applied research of different treatment technologies as well as on the development of innovative recovery and reuse technologies with enhanced market potential. ABWET beneficiaries are University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (Italy), UNESCO-IHE (The Netherlands), Université Paris-Est (France) and Tampere University of Technology (Finland).
The ABWET EJD aims to continue the successful Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctorate ETeCoS3, which develops a joint PhD education and research curriculum with joint selection, supervision and PhD defense procedures.
ETeCoS3 EMJD is centered around three key topics in environmental pollution: i) heavy metals; ii) recalcitrant organic pollutants; iii) contaminated soil. The EMJD focuses on fundamental and applied aspects to treat and remove these contaminants as well as on the development of recovery and reuse technologies with market potential.
ETeCoS3 is a multidisciplinary and inter-sectorial consortium coordinated by University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, composed of 3 partner institutions, i.e.University of Cassino and Southern Lazio (Italy), UNESCO-IHE (The Netherlands), Université Paris-Est (France), 12 academic associated members, 3 professional associations and 1 SME associated member. Ten different countries are represented.
